Something happened with last week’s newsletter and it was lost into the void! Here’s a quick re-cap of our festivities at the end of September. We always have a Farm Fall Fest at the end of September, on the Saturday closest to the Fall Equinox (save the date for 2025!).
Greg was excited to roast a pig in the pizza oven – and it turned out spectacularly! We stuffed it with root crops and apples from the field. Greg regularly smothered it with butter throughout the day, roasting it for almost 11 hours! Folks also brought along a great array of side dishes to share for the pot luck – so we had quite a feast!
We hauled out the cider press and made a bunch of apple cider with fruit from our trees out front, apples from Kistako Farm, and other apples that people brought along to the party. It was messy, fun, and tasty!
Inspired by David M Bird, we gathered acorns and other nature items and had a craft area dedicated to glueing pieces of acorns, sticks, flowers, and leaves together to make little sprites!
As a grand finale – we had a nice display of Fireworks (which my Dad, Allan, had given to us for the Fourth of July, and we had never shot off).
As it goes every year – we had a great turn out of friends, lots of fun, camaraderie, feasting, appreciation for the hard work and harvest. Please make plans to attend next year!
