Place your order for some farm fresh goodies!
Looking for a quick meal? Sweet Italian Sausage is great – both links and loose* are available. It goes great in spinach in Lasagna. Do yourself a favor and get the no-boil noodles!
Use the coupon code 5for45 at check out to get 5 sausages for $45! That’s a $15 savings!
** Indicate in the notes section at check out if you’d like loose sweet Italian sausage rather than links.
We’re sending a few roaster pigs off to the butcher this week. If you’re thinking about doing a pig roast – these guys are just what you’re looking for! We’re guessing they’ll come in at roughly 40-50 pounds, hanging weight. There’s a limited supply! So reserve your suckling pig now!
Notes from the Field
Giving potatoes another chance. The last time we grew potatoes, we didn’t get much for all the effort. This time, we’re planting them in raised beds, with the intention of dismantling the beds and finding a heaping mound of taters, easily harvested! We’ll keep you posted on this experiment.
We gave up on the spinach and harvested the whole section. We’re a week ahead of schedule, and it pains me that the weather didn’t cooperate and hold out for CSA distribution. Maybe we’ll bag it and try to hold onto it for another week. OR maybe we’ll freeze it in blocks and you can get some farm spinach to use at a later date. I’ll put a few bags up for sale on the website, anyway.
Miles and I did our weekly field walk and both agreed that things are looking pretty good in the fields. Some crops, like our second round of carrots, and first round of dill and cilantro are lost to a haze of weeds. We’ll till them in and try again.
We’re looking for Workshare help
If you ever feel like you’ve got extra time on your hands, we’d be happy for a little extra weeding help. It’s great opportunity to get grounded, get a little dirty (soil microbes are good for mental health!), soak up some sun, and hang out with folks how appreciate good food, hard work and being outside. OR, if you want a little alone time – we get that too. We can set you off on your own to zone out to an audio book while you tackle a section of the farm that needs some hard-core weeding attention. Come at 9 am and stay until 1:30 have lunch with us! We’ll send you home with a CSA share for the week! Just shoot me an email jen@blackberrymeadows.com if you’re ready to come play on the farm with us!
Play Dates on the Farm
We’re also opening up the farm to play dates on select Tuesdays (6/11, 6/25, 7/9, and 7/23 from 9:30 to 12:30). Families with kids from 3-8 years old are welcome to stop by and participate in some farm fun. We’ll have a craft, story time, farm adventures, and free play. This is NOT a drop-off situation. There should always be a responsible adult staying at the farm with your kid(s).
Art on the Farm
Join us again at the nearby table, picnic blanket, or gardens where our local artist and long time Blackberry Meadows CSA member, Maritza Mosquera, will offer a variety of materials and some fresh ideas to instigate and support us making art together.
Maritza has been an artist and teacher all her life. She will be sharing her love for The Farm, our members, food and, definitely, art.
Wednesdays in June from 4-6 pm during our CSA pick up at the farm.
All materials included. Come and Enjoy!
DONATIONS welcomed, good energy accepted.
