We’re enjoying the sunshine and making progress on our road construction out to the barns. We have lots of friends and neighbors with heavy equipment and construction skills that are showing up to help. What a great feeling! I’ve always thought of this farm as a beehive to busyness – and it hums best when there’s lots of us here, chipping away at tasks and projects.
Tomorrow morning, we’ll be out in the fields planting our garlic (about a week behind schedule). We got one 350′ row planted last week, and have two more rows to go, at least! We’re doing an unofficial mulch experiment – where we’ll cover part of the garlic patch with saw dust (from Frost Hollow Mill), another part of the garlic with wood chips (from AgRecycle), and another part with straw. We’ll see what can suppress the weeds best by June and which section of garlic is the best! I’m sure I’ll let you know at the end of June!
We have some nice turnips in the field. You can buy them here.
There’s still heads of Napa Cabbage in our cooler – let me know if you’d like to buy in bulk for making a batch of Kimchi or Sauerkraut. You can buy cabbage here.
We’re restocked on bacon, maple breakfast sausage, and Hot Italian sausage.
