Farm Market Update
OK guys – don’t putter out too soon! We are still rocking it out at the farmers markets on Fridays and Sundays until the end of November. It’s especially important that you come out to the markets when it’s cold and drear…. because all of us vendors are faithfully there with our products for you, regardless of the weather!
Well the weather was beautiful this past Sunday and we had fun! We’re teaching Olivia a valuable lesson of getting a “thick skin”. She’s so bold and fearless as he sits at the front of our booth asking every single person that walks by “would you like to try a sample of our sausage?” Amazingly, about 80% of the people that she asks, say no. Rejection is real. Learning, at an early age, that rejection is not something that has to be internalized, and is rarely personal, and to have the tenacity to keep on asking; hopefully builds up her resilience and perseverance later in life.
Of course, she doesn’t have to do this for the whole market and for every package of the “sausage of the day” that sells, she gets a buck – so there’s some entrepreneurial incentive as well.
Evelyn won’t try to pass out samples and would rather run the register. We talked two other market kids into giving out samples; one gave up right away… too shy. The other was able to give out one round of samples and then “redirected” his attention elsewhere.
It’s nice that the kids are old enough now that they can help out. Evelyn knows all are systems of setting up and tearing down the market stand, and is capable on the customer service end. Olivia can handle the “sales and entertainment” department. Greg and/or I can make a mean burger….. We’re turning into quite a team!
Art on the Farm
Join local artist and long time Blackberry Meadows CSA member Maritza Mosquera this coming Wednesday, from 4-6 pm, while she offers space and time to sketch, draw and paint during our CSA pick up at the farm.
Maritza has been an artist and teacher all her life. She will be sharing her love for food, nature, animals, people, and art making practice as a gift to us throughout October, during CSA Wednesdays, from 4 – 6 pm.
This time we will focus on drawing and printmaking veggies and fall leaves. All materials included. Come and Enjoy!
Donations welcomed, good energy accepted.
