Farm Journal 1/14/24

IMPORTANT: Please make sure you place a minimum order of $30 for delivery.

ALSO IMPORTANT: Greg’s doing the deliveries this weekend. He’ll be fine – but just remember to keep an eye out for a burly farmer with a ball cap and not Jen with kids on each elbow!

Across from the Mayfly Market (Arch St) in Northside, this Saturday at 4:00 – 4:15 pm

CSA sign up begins!

It’s time to start signing up for the 2024 CSA. I’ve opened up the Shares for FARM PICK UP (half and whole), SQUIRREL HILL (half and whole), and NORTHSIDE (half and whole). We applied to get into Ligonier Country Market – so we will be able to bring along CSA shares for that market too. We’ll let you know when we know!

Prices for CSA will go up at the end of February – so now’s the time to join. There’s numerous benefits to joining our CSA:

  • Get fresh organic produce right off our farm. We harvest fresh for Wednesday, Friday and Sunday distributions.
  • While in the produce aisle at the grocery store, do you ever wonder how old that food is? How many people have handled it? With our CSA your know your farmer and know where your food comes from.
  • Need to get some fresh air? Stretch your legs and get a little taste of farm life? Come out to the farm to pick up your share, while here you can visit the pigs, check out the veggie fields, and relax on the farm.
  • Want to get a share but can’t make it to the farm on a regular basis? Would you like a quick something to eat while picking up your share? Grab a bite to eat at our Farmers Grill and then check out the other vendors at the farmers market.

We’re also excited to announce that pet treats are back in stock!  Order your pet’s favorite treat here! We might change the label to “Beware of the Dog” as our Corgi, Charlie, will just about snatch your hand off along with the treats. August and Alice, on the other hand, are more demure (when it comes to taking treats).

We grind the offal (kidneys, livers, hearts and tongues), from the pork we get back from the butchers. Then we dehydrate and then chip into bite-sized morsels! Our dogs go nuts for it! We feel good giving them snacks like this – as it’s just plain organs… no crazy fixers, glues, or preservatives.

We’re planning for the Spring Sausage Stuffer Share soon. So keep your eyes peeled!
