Farm Journal 4/14/24

We’re crossing our fingers that they next round of storms skirts by us. We’ve had plenty of rain here in Western PA and the ground is very saturated. We’re at the point that we’re looking for windows of opportunity to work the fields when they dry out…. few and far between!

In between deluges, the kids have enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine – and are even done with their shoes until the cold weather returns!

Place your order for some farm fresh goodies!

We’ve got lots of eggs and frozen pork, for sure. Keep an eye out, as seedlings and fresh produce are starting to be posted up on our web-store too.

Farm Notes

We’re keeping an eye on our new “underground spring outlet” which was constructed last fall/winter. It’s held well, up until now, and with this copious amount of rain, our natural springs are burbling up to the surface everywhere! We’re certain, that once this “wet season” passes, the outlet will be able to do it’s job, which is to divert fresh spring water over to our pond, and away from the valley at the bottom of the pastures.

Farm Club

We’ve heard the talk about learning to grow food and we’ve responded.

Farm family and customers alike have one thing in common… they love locally raised food.  But, it’s expensive, seasonal, and rarely available in a processed form.  Many folks aspire to have their own gardens or mini-homestead, but where can someone learn the fine art, and build the confidence for living off the land?

Enter the Blackberry Meadows Farm Club.  We recognize the need for a casual educational venue and where anyone and everyone is welcome to try their hand at growing all the veggies a person needs (and preserving them) for the whole year!  It’s a challenge for sure, but in a friendly environment, with time-tested mentors (Jen’s been growing food at market scale for over 25 years!), you can empower yourself and your local fam by making Blackberry Meadows Farm your Homestead away from Home.

Think you are up for a challenge that will leave you knowledgable, prepared, and enthusiastic about ensuring your community’s food security?  Grab a hoe and lets go!  Only 5 spaces remain.

Stay tuned for news about our Little Homesteaders program! We’ve got an “A-team” on board and we’re excited to see where we go with this fun and engaging program this year!
